Conservative Republican Clay Staires Announces Candidacy For State House District 66

(SKIATOOK, OK) – Conservative Republican Clay Staires, a former award-winning school teacher and coach who has built a successful career in business, announces his candidacy to serve Oklahoma as State Representative District 66, the area that covered the seat being vacated by the previous legislator due to term limits.

“God is the answer to the issues in our society, not the government.  Our Constitution is the answer to the issues in our government, not reform and reset.  It’s time for conservatives to take the ball back from the government and start playing some offense.  Over these past couple years, we have seen how important it is to be involved in all levels of government that represent us. We have seen government overreach and un-American attacks on our families, schools, places of worship, and our God-given freedoms—all institutions that our great country was founded upon. I am running to keep Oklahoma RED by defending these bedrock institutions and constitutionally guaranteed rights, and so those who share our values are strongly represented in our state government.” 

“As a business consultant I successfully led small businesses through corporate transitioning while still growing their enterprises and I have seen up close and personal how decisions that come out of Oklahoma City hurt or help the sector and all those who rely on Oklahoman small businesses,” continued Staires. “Helping businesses thrive through the unprecedented challenges of the last two years has brought home to me the very real need to have business professionals and more real-world perspectives at the capitol to ensure that governmental entities are more responsive to the needs of Oklahoma businesses and families.”

Clay Staires started his own consulting business in 2012 to help small business owners transition their small businesses through a new or different phase than planned or accustomed to. Staires combines the skills and passions he gained as a schoolteacher, entrepreneur, pastor and coach to train, inspire, and invest in business professionals and their companies.

Clay played football for Barry Switzer while attending the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in Education. He started his teaching and coaching career at Tulsa Memorial High School before moving to Kansas City where he became the Science Department Chair and was named the “Missouri State Track Coach of the Year'' for three consecutive years while teaching at Hickman Mills High School. After 15 years of teaching, Clay returned home to Avant, Oklahoma where he and his wife, Lisa, took over the leadership of Shepherd’s Fold Ranch, a Christian Summer Camp, and started a leadership training school called The Furnace to invest in and mentor college students to grow with God and mature in their faith. Staires also served the community on the Avant School Board, the Skiatook Chamber Board and in the Green Country Ministers Alliance.

Married for 23 years to Lisa Staires, the couple has two daughters, one who is a graphic designer, and the other who is completing her degree at the University of Oklahoma. Clay and Lisa also operate NowGo, a non-profit organization that serves Skiatook long-term care residents and Avant elementary school children. Lisa is also a liver transplant survivor, and their journey of healing has led to an even deeper commitment for Clay to champion the importance of access to quality healthcare options, and the patient and healthcare providers having the ability to work together on patient choices. They are active members of Riveted Church in Skiatook.
