House Commitee passes bill clarifying services offered by chiropractors

Randleman Chiropractor Bill Moves Forward

OKLAHOMA CITY – A House committee has approved legislation to clarify what nutritional supplements chiropractors may administer by injection.

House Bill 3246, authored by Rep. Randy Randleman, R-Eufaula, was approved by the House Business and Commerce Committee on Wednesday. Randleman told the committee the legislation will clear up confusion about what services chiropractors can offer and help some patients receive services that they may not have known are available.

Randleman said he was asked by a chiropractor in his district to run the bill. Both the Oklahoma Chiropractors' Association and the Unified Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma are supportive of the language.

"I feel that any bill which helps clarify services is needed in our state right now," Randleman said. "This measure will simply clear up what nutritional supplements chiropractors can administer by injec

tion. I am grateful the bill passed committee and look forward to presenting it on the House floor."

The nutritional supplements and homeopathics included in the bill are amino acids, fatty acids, enzymes, antioxidants, cellular agents/extracts, botanical/phytonutrients, and articles within the homeopathic pharmacopeia. These have been possessed, prescribed, and administered by chiropractors for the past 30 years, but due to a lack of clarity in statute, these nutritional supplements have become very difficult for chiropractors to obtain.

The bill may now be considered on the House floor for a vote by the full chamber.

Rep. Randy Randleman, a Republican, serves District 15 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, which covers Haskell County and portions of Muskogee, Sequoyah, LeFlore, Pittsburg and McIntosh counties.
