Dusty Deevers wins SD32 GOP primary, advances to December general election

The primary for the Senate District 32 special election was held this evening, with Republican and Democratic voters chosing their respective nominees to face off in the December 12th general election.

In a tight - and contentious - four-way GOP primary, Elgin pastor Dusty Deevers emerged triumphant, leading the field by 6.3% with just over 37% of the vote. Deevers will be a fantastic conservative addition to the State Senate, assuming he continues on to win the general election.

Democrats picked Larry Bush, who received 73% of the vote in the much smaller Democratic primary. Deevers alone received more GOP votes than both Democratic candidates combined:

Republicans outnumber Democrats in SD32 by 9.81%, as shown below. Independents are a higher than normal percentage in this particular district as compared statewide, but recent electoral history and these voter registration figures lend toward the GOP candidate being the odds-on favorite to win.

Deevers shouldn't take anything for granted, though, as the state GOP has had a handful of rather unexpected losses in the past decade in special elections. Press on to victory, Dusty!
