The last installment of my long-running Voter Registration Maps series came in February, but this is a big milestone deserving of its own post. At long last, after 116½ years, Republicans lead voter registration in all of Oklahoma's 77 counties.
You can click each image in this post to view it larger. The statistics are from the April 30th end-on-month report from the State Election Board.
Coal County has been the lone county with a Democratic voter registration lead since January 2023. Sometime between the end of February and the end of March, Coal County succumbed to the red tide and flipped to GOP plurality.
In 2010, 82.53% of Coal County voters were registered Democrats compared to 12.14% who were Republicans, a lead of 70.38%. A mere fourteen years later, Republicans now lead by 1.81%, and one of the statewide elected officials is a Coal County Republican (State Auditor Cindy Byrd).
The above map shows the leading political party by county, whether holding a plurality or an outright majority of registered voters. The blue color that once dominated the state has now completely disappeared on a county-level.
The GOP has plurality leads in 12 counties, and outright majorities in the remaining 65 counties.
