State Rep. Amanda Swope resigns mere weeks before legislative session

Oh, look... a second state legislator to resign in the weeks after winning reelection. Here comes another special election in 2025; that will make for at least three in the first half of the year (two house, one senate). State Rep. Amanda Swope (D-Tulsa) makes it a bipartisan affair, leaving to take a position with new Tulsa mayor and former State Rep. Monroe Nichols:

Swope announces departure from legislature, outlines future plans to continue serving Tulsa

OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 13th) – Oklahoma House Rep. Amanda Swope, D-Tulsa, announced her final day in the Oklahoma Legislature will be January 28, 2025. Swope will start work as the Director of Tribal Policy & Partnership in the administration of Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols.

“It has been an honor to serve Oklahoma and the City of Tulsa throughout these few years representing House District 71,” Swope said. “I will forever cherish and support my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus. I do not take the opportunity to serve in the legislature lightly, and it has been some of my most fulfilling work to be able to work with those in my caucus and across the aisle on issues that matter most to our state and people. I am eager to continue my service to the City of Tulsa with this new role and will always be grateful for the experiences and relationships I have built within the Oklahoma Legislature.”

House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, extended her gratitude toward Swope for her dedicated service in House District 71.

“While I am incredibly sad about Rep. Swope’s departure from the Legislature, I am equally excited about her future and the work she will do for the City of Tulsa," Leader Munson said. "More than a trusted colleague, she quickly became a trusted friend. As a New Member, she took on hefty committee assignments and was always willing to do whatever she needed for the success of the House Democratic Caucus. Above all, she kept all Tulsans and Oklahomans as her priority during her time in the Oklahoma House. I am a better person, friend, and leader having served with her. I wish Rep. Swope all the success in her new role with the City of Tulsa and stand ready to help however I can.”
