AFP-OK applauds House vote to end 6% mandatory gas and grocery markup

AFP-OK Cheers House Vote to End Mandatory Gas & Grocery Markup

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (April 22nd) - Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) thanked members of the House Commerce and Economic Development Oversight Committee today for their unanimous vote in favor of legislation to remove a long-hidden price markup on gas, groceries, and other essentials that make everyday life more expensive for Oklahomans.

If passed by the full House, SB 638 would amend the Unfair Sales Act of 1949 to end a six-percent mandatory price markup that was originally aimed to protect small businesses from being priced out by bigger competition but has passed on higher costs to consumers.

AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell gave the following statement:

"This is a commonsense free market solution to a textbook case of protectionism that benefits a few at the expense of all - especially low-income households. We encourage the House to pass this critical relief for taxpayers and lower the cost of doing business and raising a family in the Sooner State. AFP-OK will always champion policies that lower the cost of living and foster a more competitive economy."

Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites Oklahomans behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org.
